October 3, 2008 is National Alternative Fuel Vehicle Odyssey Day at FSEC. Biodiesel in Florida will be the topic of discussion. The Agenda suggests information about feedstocks, production and where you can get it. Truck drivers and other diesel drivers might want to attend this one.

One biodiesel feedstock gaining attention is jatropha nuts. The trees can evidently be grown on marginal soils with only natural amounts of rainfall. This could be a way to grow our way into the fuel while pulling CO2 out of the atmosphere. Roy Beckford, with the U of F Extension Service has been doing research on jatropha and encouraging farmers to give it a try.

After the Workshop, stay for the annual meeting of the Florida Renewable Energy Association which begins at 5Pm. FREA will have a featured speaker and break into their own strategy sessions where your input will be important and welcome.
